Since becoming a member of Miami Dade Faculty Museum of Artwork and Design (MOAD) in February 2024 as government director and chief curator, Dr. Amy Galpin has been working in direction of elevating the profile of the establishment and enhancing the accessibility of its applications and collections.
Dr. Galpin oversees all museum operations and actions whereas nurturing relationships with established and rising group members, sponsors, donors, and the Larger Miami visible arts group. She may also oversee the MDC Particular Collections and the Kislak Heart contained in the Historic Landmark the Freedom Tower, which is ready to reopen in September and have a good time its centennial.
With over 20 years of expertise, Dr. Galpin was the chief curator of the Frost Artwork Museum at Florida Worldwide College, a curator at Rollins Museum of Artwork, and an affiliate curator of Artwork of the Americas on the San Diego Museum of Artwork.
On the Frost Artwork Museum, she curated group exhibitions, equivalent to Within the Thoughts’s Eye: Landscapes of Cuba and Minimize: Abstraction within the US from the Nineteen Seventies to the Current, and solo tasks with artists Rafael Soldi, Liu Shiyuan, and Peggy Levison Nolan.
At Rollins Museum, she organized solo exhibitions with Patrick Martínez, Jamilah Sabur, and Jess Dugan and curated the group exhibition “Displacement: Symbols and Journeys.” At each establishments, she enthusiastically engaged with college students and college on diversified initiatives, together with curating exhibitions, and taught programs on trendy and modern artwork and museum research.
Dr. Galpin has a monitor file of group engagement in Miami, having collaborated with companions such because the Miami-Dade Public Libraries and Oolite Arts, the place she guest-curated exhibitions. Ms. Galpin says she stays dedicated to researching the artists who dwell and work on this area.
“One factor I’m actually excited for us is to welcome folks again to the Freedom Tower, for them to expertise these new exhibitions, and for all of our group to replicate on the historical past of the Freedom Tower. For some, that historical past is so private, and for some, it’ll be new,” she added. “That is a rare 12 months, with the centennial, with the reopening of the Freedom Tower, which is an area that may symbolize hope, alternative, and it’s a technique to honor private histories and elevating the expertise of many Miamians by way of artwork, dialog and design.”
