SHILLONG, Aug 6: Director Normal of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang on Wednesday mentioned an inquiry has been launched into allegation that an alleged policeman extorted 5 non-tribals by demanding an “entry price.”
The investigation is being performed individually by the Commandant of 1st MLP Battalion Herbert Lyngdoh and Ri-Bhoi Senior Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Singh Rathore.
“Acceptable motion will likely be taken primarily based on their reviews,” the DGP assured.
In accordance with reviews, the first MLP Battalion Commandant has assigned the Assistant Commandant to guide the inner probe and submit an in depth report.
The accused, recognized as Brill Rongpeit, is reportedly a member of the first MLP Battalion’s brass band unit.
The Umiam Circle of the Khasi College students’ Union (KSU) alleged that he collected Rs 1,000 every from the 5 non-tribals who had been travelling in a car (AS25 CC 4375).
The KSU requested authorities to make clear whether or not Rongpeit is a respectable police officer misusing his place or an impersonator misusing police identification.
The Union urged the federal government and the Police division to completely examine the matter and take sturdy measures to stop such occurrences sooner or later.
