PARIS: The Boeing 787 Dreamliner that crashed in India on Thursday (Jun 12) is the delight of the US firm’s catalogue for long-distance planes: A fuel-efficient, wide-body plane capable of transport as much as 330 individuals.

    LIGHTWEIGHT

After first getting into service in October 2011 with Japan’s All Nippon Airways, 2,598 of the planes have been ordered by greater than 80 airways world wide, with 889 nonetheless awaiting supply.

Its attraction is its light-weight construction, half of which is comprised of composite supplies, permitting it to burn as much as 20 per cent much less gas over lengthy distances than older, equivalent-sized passenger planes.

It may be used for “point-to-point” companies, which means it could actually fly direct to a vacation spot as an alternative of counting on a “hub” system utilized by heavier plane.

Boeing says the usage of the 787 has opened up 180 such “point-to-point” routes, greater than the 80 initially banked upon.
