BEIRUT (AP) — A former Lebanese Cupboard minister has been arrested and charged after an investigation into alleged monetary crimes, judicial and safety officers advised The Related Press.
Former Economic system Minister Amin Salam was detained after a three-hour interrogation about unlawful use of ministry funds and use of suspicious contracts. The three judicial officers and one safety official spoke on situation of anonymity as a result of they weren’t licensed to talk to the press.
Lebanon has been making an attempt to reform its battered economic system, which for many years has been rife with profiteering.
Salam has been charged with forgery, embezzlement, and misuse of public funds. Native media stated it was associated to alleged extortion of personal insurance coverage corporations and utilizing funds from a committee that supervises these corporations for his personal bills.
Salam didn’t immediately remark. On Monday, nonetheless, he shared a video on social media that denied the studies and asserted that his use of these funds was to extend the committee’s efficacy and transparency.
