SAN FRANCISCO — California is stepping in as the continuing authorities shutdown threatens meals entry for hundreds of thousands.
Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday introduced the deployment of the California Nationwide Guard and California Volunteers to assist meals banks statewide.
The transfer comes as SNAP advantages are delayed for five.5 million Californians.
The state can be fast-tracking as much as $80 million in emergency funding.
Officers say this can be a humanitarian mission and that the Nationwide Guard won’t be appearing as regulation enforcement.
The transfer mirrors related motion taken throughout the pandemic to maintain households fed.
