Having grown up in a colony of the Soviet Union, I learn with horrified amusement about China focusing on “excessively pessimistic sentiment” (“China punishes net pessimists,” Web page A3, Oct. 9).
Underneath Communism, nothing dangerous is meant to occur. Our newspapers have been prohibited from publishing details about fires, rapes, muggings, and, for sure, dissent of any variety. The federal government regarded such information as subversive.
Do the Trumpian techniques of not desirous to disturb folks’s minds with truths about US historical past in schooling, museums, national-park shows, artwork, comedy exhibits, and even politics echo the totalitarian regimes of China and my birthplace? I’ll let your readers choose.
