In his first public remarks in Canada, Pope Francis has requested for forgiveness for the function of the Catholic Church in colleges meant to assimilate indigenous kids.
The federal government-funded colleges have been a part of a coverage meant to destroy indigenous cultures and languages.
The papal apology was obtained by applause from survivors within the viewers, a few of whom travelled far to listen to the Pope communicate.
Many have known as on the Pope to apologise for the function the Roman Catholic Church performed in working as much as 70% of residential colleges in Canada.
