    Israel renewed and intensified its bombardment of Beirut’s suburbs this week, assassinating Mohamed Afif, Hezbollah’s chief spokesman, on Sunday. As ceasefire negotiations proceed, is that this an escalation in violence that may precede a diplomatic breakthrough – or simply an escalation?
