    One eyewitness described seeing a ‘twister of fireside and smoke’ coming from the roof of the constructing

    A youngster has been arrested over a fireplace at a former main college in Perth.

    An eyewitness described seeing a “twister of fireside and smoke” on the outdated Balhousie Main College constructing on Muirton Place shortly after midnight on Sunday.

    The Scottish Fireplace and Rescue Service (SFRS) dispatched six crews and two peak home equipment to the scene, with firefighters persevering with to battle again the blaze into the early hours.

    An 18-year-old man has been arrested in reference to wilful fire-raising.

    Two crews and a peak equipment stay on the scene on Sunday morning to hold out dampening down work, the SFRS mentioned.

    There weren’t regarded as any casualties, however quite a few properties have been evacuated as a precaution, Police Scotland mentioned.

    Fireplace crews have been referred to as to the previous Balhousie Main shortly after midnight on Sunday

    One eyewitness informed BBC Scotland Information: “I drove previous at about 01:30 and the roof had collapsed.

    “There was a full fire-smoke twister engulfing the constructing.

    “The flames started to subside about an hour later and the crimson glow was nearly utterly passed by about 03:30.”

    She added workers at an area storage had supplied espresso and water to emergency responders, whereas a close-by department of McDonald’s had handed out meals.

    Dunkeld Street, Balhousie Avenue and Muirton Place have been closed off and drivers and pedestrians have been warned to keep away from the world.

    Close by residents have been warned to maintain their home windows and doorways closed because of smoke coming from the scene.

    Balhousie Main College was closed in 2023 when pupils have been moved to the brand new Riverside Main.
