Kanaan Mohamed, arrested in Aleppo in 2006, spent six years in jail, together with 3.5 years in Sednaya jail close to Damascus, which was recognized in Syria as a ‘human slaughterhouse’. He describes brutal torture, together with electrical shocks, pressured nudity, and being bent with a automotive tyre for beatings. Torture was relentless, with no pause between strikes, adopted by additional rounds, termed the “entrance ceremony.” Prisoners have been blindfolded and compelled pushed down stairs, typically falling in a sequence response. The psychological trauma was amplified by listening to others being tortured. Saydnaya’s strategies overshadowed earlier abuses in different prisons in Syria, leaving lasting scars.
