    António Guterres introduced the transfer in a statement issued on Monday, in response to plans by a number of UN Member States to withdraw from the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

    The 1997 treaty, often known as the Ottawa Conference, prohibits the use, stockpiling, manufacturing and switch of those weapons. 

    Landmark world agreeement

    Since then, it “has led to a digital halt in world manufacturing of anti-personnel mines, and a drastic discount of their deployment,” and “greater than 40 million stockpiled mines have been destroyed,” according to the UN Workplace for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA).

    So far, 165 States are celebration to the treaty and 133 have signed it.

    Weakening safety, undermining progress

    With out naming nations, the Secretary-Common expressed grave concern over the event.

    “These bulletins are significantly troubling, because it dangers weakening civilian safety and undermining twenty years of a normative framework that has saved numerous lives.”

    He urged all States “to stick to humanitarian disarmament treaties and instantly halt any steps in direction of their withdrawal,” and appealed to the 32 States which have but to affix the treaty to take action at once.

    These nations embody China, Iran, Israel, Russia, and the US.

    In regards to the marketing campaign
