Prime-order batter Shubman Gill has been named the brand new Check captain of the India males’s group.
The 25-year-old succeeds Rohit Sharma as captain, with the 38-year-old having retired from Test cricket earlier this month.
Gill, who has scored 1,893 runs in 32 Checks, will lead a depleted India group in a five-Check tour of England beginning at Headingley on 20 June.
Veteran seamer Mohammed Shami was disregarded of India’ 18-strong squad following a late damage setback, though he performed within the Indian Premier League.
