TUMBES, Peru (AP) — Peru’s Navy says it has rescued about 30 fishermen who had been stranded for 2 days at sea as big waves pounded the nation’s northern coast. Lots of them had struggled to carry their boats again to Acapulco seaside within the Tumbes area.
Jaime Yacila, the mayor of the province of Contralmirante Villar, which lies within the Tumbes area 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) north of capital Lima, stated Saturday that some fishermen couldn’t wait any longer to be rescued at sea, which accelerated the operation.
“They (the fisherman) didn’t wish to lose their boats,” Yacila advised reporters. Many boats capsized as a result of waves, which additionally pressured the closing of a number of ports within the area, in accordance with authorities.
Protection Minister Walter Astudillo adopted the rescue operations from an Military helicopter flying over the affected space.
