A gathering between Iraqi Kurdish political chief Masoud Barzani and US particular envoy Tom Barrack has begun in Erbil, in northern Iraq.
Hoshang Hasan, the editor of the North Press Company, says the US position in mediating between the Syrian military and the SDF is “essential”.
“For the reason that formation of the SDF in 2014, its forces have been combating aspect by aspect with US troops towards ISIL [ISIS],” he informed Al Jazeera.
“By this cooperation and coordination with US troops, the SDF has managed to liberate many areas of Syria from the grip of ISIL, together with Deir Az Zor metropolis. Subsequently, I consider the US mediatory position, and the broader mediation efforts by US envoys and officers, are essential.”
